Tant attendue, la toute nouvelle Ford Escort RS2000 Turbo 4X4 de Martin Schanche n'a fait qu'une brève apparition en Irlande. Ses premiers tours de roue ont été particulièrement difficiles et après avoir rencontré quelques soucis de transmission, puis de moteur le vendredi, "Mister Rallycross" devait se résigner à déclarer forfait.
Schanche n'a toutefois pas tout perdu en Irlande. Sa "vieille" Escort, qu'il loue à son compatriote Ludvig Hunsbedt, s'est livrée à un véritable récital sur le très rapide tracé de Mondello Park. Le plus rapide dans les deux premières manches qualificatives et donc en pole position en finale, Hunsbedt s'est élancé en tête, malgré la présence à ses côtés de Jean-Luc Pailler, pourtant réputé maître des départs. Hunsbedt a ensuite mené la finale à sa guise pour enlever sa seconde victoire de la saison, après celle décrochée au Portugal. Deuxième en Irlande, Pailler conforte sa place de leader au championnat, dans la mesure où il a une fois de plus devancé Kenneth Hansen.
En division 1, le Norvégien Eivind Opland semblait se laisser glisser vers la victoire quand à un tour du but, il commettait un écart, profitable au Suédois Lasse Sällström, lequel consolide ainsi son leadership au championnat.
