Circuit de Melk
Tandis que Schanche, Hansen et Pailler se plaignaient de n'être pas prêts, Per Eklund a entamé la saison dans les conditions prévues. Mais au seul prix d'une semaine folle durant laquelle il n'a compté ni les kilomètres (visite chez Prodrive, retour en Suède et puis départ pour l'Autriche), ni les heures de travail. Heureusement, toute peine mérite salaire et le vétéran suédois en a été récompensé par une splendide victoire en finale. Sa seconde victoire européenne avec Subaru, mais la première sur piste sèche. Second à l'issue des séries qualificatives, Eklund a profité de la résurgence des vieux démons de l'Audi de Kristoffersson, une fois de plus trahie par son différentiel arrière, après avoir dominé les préliminaires sur une piste taillée à sa mesure. Auteur de quelques départs canon, Martin Iversen a enlevé une étonnante deuxième place devant Hansen. Qualifié en finale "A" en dépit d'un accrochage en seconde manche et d'une tenue de route perfectible, Pailler a longtemps occupé la quatrième place, mais l'a perdue après avoir été secoué par Jernberg à quelques mètres de l'arrivée. Sur l'ex-Escort de Skogstad, Schanche a dû se contenter d'une modeste septième place. Comme Hansen, Pailler et Gollop (absent à Melk), Schanche n'alignera sa nouvelle monture qu'en cours de saison. La division 1 prend des allures de Coupe Mitsubishi et a vu la toute première victoire européenne du Suédois Sällström.
